When I looked at both students, something became very clear.

The second student had more opportunities in front of him.

The mistake most students make

Most students think opportunities come after they become highly skilled.

That sounds logical.

But that is not always how it works.

We learn new things because we want to do something bigger with them.

We want internships.
Projects.
Jobs.
Interesting opportunities.

But opportunities do not appear just because you quietly became good at something.

People need to know that you exist.

People need to know what you are working on.

That is where documenting your journey becomes important.

Visibility is not what you think

When I say visibility, I am not talking about becoming famous online.

I am not talking about getting thousands of likes.

I am talking about something much simpler.

If someone searches your name tomorrow, there should be some evidence that you exist.

Some indication of what you are learning.

Some indication of what you are building.

That can be on LinkedIn.

It can be on Instagram.

It can be on X.

The platform does not matter as much as the habit.

When you consistently document your progress, people begin to notice you.

And more importantly, they begin to remember you.

The hidden benefit

There is another reason I like this approach.

It creates accountability.

When you publicly commit to something, even something small, you naturally feel responsible for continuing.

Most of us have started things and quietly stopped.

But when other people are following your journey, there is a healthy pressure to keep going.

That pressure often helps you finish what you started.

And over time, that consistency compounds.

Why this matters now

We are moving into a world where your online presence matters more than ever.

If you never document anything, the digital world has very little information about you.

The opportunities you are hoping for may never find you.

That is why I believe students should start building in public much earlier than they think.

And yet, after a few days, you’re back wondering why consistency feels so difficult.

Maybe It’s Not You

One thing I’ve noticed is that many students assume they have a discipline problem.

When a habit doesn’t last, the first thought is usually:

“Maybe I’m just not consistent enough.”

But after speaking to students and going through the same cycle myself, I think we often look at the wrong place.

Most people focus on motivation.

They keep looking for a better productivity trick.

A better routine.

A better app.

But consistency is usually influenced by something much simpler.

The environment around the habit.

Making The Habit Easier

Let’s say you want to start going to the gym regularly.

You will naturally look for the nearest gym.

Not the one that’s far away.

Because the easier it is to reach, the easier it becomes to repeat.

The same idea applies to almost every habit.

If a task needs too much effort just to get started, you’ll keep postponing it.

Not because you don’t care.

Because there’s too much friction between you and the action.

Sometimes consistency starts by making the habit easier to begin.

The Power Of Cues

Another thing that makes habits difficult is that they don’t have a place in your day.

You want to read.

You want to learn.

You want to build a new routine.

But there is no specific trigger attached to it.

So the task keeps getting pushed.

Morning becomes afternoon.

Afternoon becomes evening.

Evening becomes tomorrow.

One simple idea from the video is linking a new habit to something you already do consistently.

For example, if you brush your teeth every morning, you could decide that reading the newspaper happens immediately after that.

The cue already exists.

The habit simply follows it.

Over time, the routine becomes easier to remember because it has a natural trigger.

A Smaller Definition Of Success

A lot of students accidentally make consistency harder by setting the success criteria too high.

If your goal is reading every day, does success mean finishing the entire newspaper?

Or does reading a single page count?

That’s an important question.

Because when the target feels too large, skipping becomes easier.

Sometimes consistency grows when the minimum requirement becomes smaller.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is showing up.

Even if it is just the bare minimum.

And it’s completely okay to stay at that minimum level for a while before gradually increasing it.

Systems Over Motivation

The biggest takeaway from this week’s video is simple.

Consistency is not something that appears because you feel motivated one morning.

It usually develops over time through the systems you build around yourself.

The way you structure your environment.

The way you create triggers.

The way you define success.

Those small systems quietly influence what you do every day.

And over time, that’s where consistency comes from.

Before you watch, pay attention to the examples. They make these ideas much easier to apply to your own life.

The next time you feel frustrated about not being consistent, don’t immediately blame yourself.

Pause for a moment.

Look at the system around the habit.

Sometimes the problem isn’t your effort.

It’s the setup.

And small changes to the setup can make a bigger difference than another dose of motivation ever will.

Recently, a student told me something that stayed in my mind for a long time.

Most Parents Are Speaking From Fear

When parents ask you to take a specific course or follow a certain career path, most of the time they are not trying to control your life.

They are trying to protect your future using the information they already have.

Maybe one relative got a job through that course.

Maybe one senior in your area is working in IT.

Maybe somebody around them said, “Idha padicha dhan future secure.”

So naturally, they believe that.

And honestly, that is not completely wrong from their side too.

That is the world they have seen.

The Problem Most Students Don’t Realize

A lot of students expect trust without showing anything.

Your parents may know your marks.

But do they know your projects?

Do they know the competitions you participated in?

Do they know the effort behind your learning?

Most students only go and talk when there is pressure.

When there is confusion.

When there is a problem.

So parents slowly start thinking:

That is where the distance starts building.

Trust Is Built Slowly

One thing I really wanted students to understand through this video is this:

Trust does not come from one emotional argument.

It slowly builds through consistency.

When parents repeatedly see you working on something meaningful, they slowly start respecting it.

Even small things matter here.

Your mini projects.

Your record work.

Your recognitions.

Your participation in hackathons.

The small efforts you make every week.

All these things slowly become proof.

Not proof that you already succeeded.

But proof that you are genuinely trying.

And that changes the way parents look at you.

Sit With Them Like You Would Sit In An Interview

If your parents still do not fully understand your path, it is okay.

Do not wait till the next big fight happens.

Sit with them one day.

Open your laptop.

Show them what you have been doing.

Talk to them the same way you would explain yourself in an interview.

Tell them what skills you are learning.

Tell them what you are building.

Tell them why your current focus matters to you.

And slowly explain why a certain course may not fit where you are trying to go.

Not through anger.

Not through shouting.

Just through honest conversations over time.

Even ten minutes before sleeping every day can slowly change things at home.

A lot of students are building projects faster than ever now.

One prompt.
One AI tool.
One weekend.

And suddenly there is an app, a dashboard, or a full product sitting in front of them.

Recently, I heard something during a conversation with a founder that genuinely stayed in my head for a long time.

The intern who impressed everyone

There was an intern in a company who was shipping features insanely fast.

People around him were honestly surprised.

Tasks that usually took days were getting completed in hours.

Naturally, everyone thought this guy was extremely talented.

But after some time, when he started working on actual business logic and production-level work, problems slowly started appearing.

The product started breaking in places.

Certain modules were crashing the system.

And when the team asked him a very simple question:

“Can you explain what exactly changed in the code?”

He could not answer it properly.

Not because he was careless.

He genuinely did not know.

That is the scary part.

What most students misunderstand

Right now, many students think vibe coding simply means generating code through prompts.

But there is still a process behind good engineering.

AI can help you write code faster.

But it cannot replace your understanding of what is happening inside the product.

That responsibility is still yours.

The more detailed your requirement is, the better the output becomes.

Not just:
“Build me an app.”

But:

• what the input should be

• what output is expected

• what libraries should be used

• what constraints exist

• what logic should happen internally

That level of clarity matters.

Small prompts. Better understanding.

Another mistake I keep seeing is students trying to generate an entire product in one shot.

That usually creates confusion later.

Instead, breaking work into smaller tasks makes a huge difference.

One component.

One function.

One logic change.

And after every output, actually sitting and understanding what changed.

That part is important.

AI should also become your teacher

This is probably the most useful part about all these AI coding tools.

Not the generation.

The explanation.

Even if you do not understand a line of code, you can paste it into ChatGPT or Claude and ask:

“Explain this to me.”

And slowly, line by line, you start understanding how things actually work.

Honestly, I feel this is how many students will learn coding in the coming years.

Not by memorizing syntax first.

But by building, questioning, debugging, and learning while building.

The boring things still matter

Testing still matters.

Documentation still matters.

Debugging still matters.

Deployment still matters.

You still need to know:

• what your product is doing

• how modules connect with each other

• where something breaks

• why it breaks

Otherwise the moment a real production issue comes, everything falls apart.

I do not think students should avoid AI tools.

That is not practical anymore.

But I also do not want students to become dependent on outputs they cannot explain.

One thing I noticed during placement season is this.

Even students who got placed are not fully happy.

Because once salary numbers enter the conversation, comparison also quietly enters.

And suddenly your happiness starts depending on someone else’s package.

The Feeling I Never Told Anyone

I still remember when I got my first job.

4.5 LPA.

Before that, the first proper money I earned was ₹500 through freelancing.

At that time, that ₹500 itself felt huge for me.

But after placements started, everything changed.

Because around me, students were getting 8 LPA, 12 LPA, even 16 LPA offers.

And naturally, I also started comparing myself.

You know how it feels, right?

Outwardly you smile and say “happy for you macha”.

But internally your brain keeps asking questions.

“Namma enna pannom?”

“Are we already behind?”

“Did college life even work for us?”

Honestly, I felt very small during that phase.

Even though 4.5 LPA itself was actually not bad.

Comparison changes how you see your own life.

What I Realised Later

Today when I look back, I genuinely feel starting smaller helped me more.

Because when I left college, I was still half-ready.

I had some skills.

Some exposure.

But definitely not enough maturity to suddenly survive in a very high-pressure environment.

That first job gave me something very valuable.

Breathing space.

I got time to learn properly.

Time to understand how companies actually work.

Time to slowly improve myself without constantly feeling pressure.

And because expectations were lower, I could quietly build myself.

That became the reason I could later move into much better opportunities.

By the time I quit after 8 years, I was earning 30 LPA.

Not because I was extraordinary.

Mostly because I got enough time to equip myself properly.

What Most Students Miss

Many students think placements are the final result.

But honestly, placements are just the entry gate.

Your first job is not your final identity.

It is just your starting point.

Sometimes students put too much pressure on getting the “perfect” first offer.

But real careers usually grow slowly.

Your first one or two years are mostly about understanding yourself.

Understanding the market.

Understanding what skills actually matter.

Understanding what kind of work suits you.

That clarity usually comes only after entering the industry.

Not inside classrooms.

The Difference Experience Creates

One thing students underestimate is this.

Once you gain experience, companies stop seeing you as “just another fresher”.

That difference changes a lot.

Suddenly your next switch becomes easier.

Your confidence changes.

Your understanding changes.

Even the way recruiters speak to you changes.

That first job may not look impressive to others immediately.

But sometimes it quietly becomes the foundation for everything later.

So if someone still shows an old certification without updating themselves, it becomes obvious that they have not stayed current.

That is also why certifications have more weight.

They are tied to real skill and continuous learning.

What students should pay attention to

The next time someone tells you:

“Do this course and we will give you a certificate that will help your career.”

Please think twice before spending your time or money there.

Certificates alone are not what move your career forward.

The bigger thing is whether you are building actual skill, working on projects, and proving capability through certifications or real work.

Once you understand this difference properly, even the way you approach college starts changing.

You stop running behind random certificates.

You start becoming more intentional with what you learn.

And honestly, that shift itself puts you ahead of many students.

Before you keep adding another course to your resume, just pause for a second and ask yourself:

“Am I only completing something? Or am I actually building proof of skill?”

Sometimes in an interview, they ask something you genuinely don’t know.

And in that moment, most students just switch off.
They sit there quietly or say “I don’t know” and stop.

I’ve seen this happen so many times.

But what if that exact moment could actually work in your favor?

Starting with honesty

The first thing is simple.

Accept that you don’t know.

You don’t have to pretend. You don’t have to panic.

You can just say,
“This is something I’m not very much sure of.”

That one line itself shows clarity.

Staying in the conversation

Now this is where most students go wrong.

They stop after saying they don’t know.

Instead, you can still continue.

Try adding whatever you know around that topic.

Let’s say you’re asked about WebSockets in an interview.
You may not know it exactly.

But you can still say,
“I’m not very much sure about WebSockets, but I understand it’s related to communication between systems.”

You’re not guessing randomly.
You’re showing some context.

That makes a big difference.

Connecting it to your experience

Then you take it one step further.

You talk about something you have actually worked on.

For example, you can mention that you have worked with REST APIs during your projects or college.

Now the interviewer sees something clearly.

You may not know that exact topic.
But you are not completely blank.

You have some understanding.
And you have done related work.

Showing how you think

The last part is the most important.

You show that you are willing to learn it.

You say that with your current understanding, you can eventually learn and work on it.

Now the interviewer is not just seeing your knowledge.
They are seeing your mindset.

And that changes everything.

What I want you to remember

Whenever you don’t know something, think like this:

Accept
Attempt
Learn

One simple question.

Tell me about yourself.

And that’s where around 70% of students get rejected.

Not because they don’t know anything.
But because of how they start.

I’ve seen this again and again.

You enter the interview.
You’re a little nervous.

you start talking about your hometown.
Your family.
Your background.

By the time you reach something useful,
the interviewer has already lost interest.

What actually matters here

This answer is not about your life story.

It’s about helping the interviewer understand you quickly.

You need to focus on three simple things.

What you are doing now.
What you have done so far.
What you plan to do next.

That’s it.

Start with your present

Talk about what you are doing right now.

Your top skills.
What you are currently learning.
Any project you are working on.
Or your internship.

This gives immediate clarity.

Bring in your past

Then connect it to what you have already done.

The projects you completed.
The skills you built through them.

This is your proof of work.

This is where you show you have actually done something.

Show where you are going

Finally, talk about your future.

Why you want this role.
What you are trying to achieve.

This helps the interviewer see your direction.

Make it a story

If you just say these as separate points,
it will still feel flat.

But if you connect them like a story,
it becomes interesting to listen to.

It shows you can explain things clearly.

And that matters a lot in interviews.

Try this once

Don’t just read this and move on.

Record your answer once.

Use this structure.

That stayed with me.

Because I have heard this from so many students.

You go to class regularly.
You understand what is being taught.
You write exams well and your marks show it.

Most students are strong in theory.

But when it comes to actually using it, they get stuck.

In exams, you sit quietly and write everything properly.

There is no pressure.

You might be learning a lot every semester.

But if you are not turning at least some of it into something visible, it stays with you only.

Take one concept.

Build something small with it.

I am not saying marks don’t matter.

They do.

But only marks is not enough.

Only skills is also not enough.

You need both.

So just pause and think.

Are you only studying?

Or are you also building and showing something?

Before you listen to anyone

This time of the year, you will see a lot of people telling you what to do.

Friends will say something.
Family will say something else.
Social media will be full of opinions.

It can feel confusing.
And somewhere in that noise, you might just go and vote based on what you heard the most.

But if you do that, that vote will not mean much to you later.

Start with the candidate

The first thing I always tell students is this.

Don’t start with the party.
Start with the candidate.

Go check who that person is.
What is their background.
What have they done before.

You don’t need hours for this.
Even a few minutes of searching will give you a clear picture.

But make sure you are not just scrolling social media opinions.
Try to actually understand their history.

Because at the end of the day, you are choosing a person who represents your area.

Look at your own area

The next thing is simple.

Look around you.

What is not working in your area right now?

Is it roads.
Is it water.
Is it electricity.
Is it something related to college or jobs.

Every area has its own problems.

Once you see that clearly,
then look at the candidates again.

Who is actually talking about solving these problems?
Who is focusing on what matters to your area?

When you do this, the decision becomes much clearer.

Don’t get carried away by influence

This is where most students go wrong.

At this time, a lot of influencers will start telling you who to vote for.

It can be your friends.
Your family.
Or people you follow online.

Listen if you want.

But treat all of it as a very small part of your decision.

Don’t let someone else decide for you.

Because if you vote just because someone told you,
it won’t feel right later.

But if you think through and decide,
you will feel that ownership.

What they actually mean by “experience”

Whenever you go for an internship or a job, one question keeps coming.

“What have you done before this?”

Most students hear this and feel stuck.

Because the immediate thought is
“I don’t have any experience.”

But that’s not really what they are asking.

What they actually want to see is your proof of work.

Something you have built.
Something you have tried.
Something that shows you didn’t just learn, you applied.

Where most students get stuck

A third year student came and told me this.

“I haven’t done any projects so far. Now internships are mandatory. I am applying everywhere but not getting anything.”

And this is where many of you are right now.

Not because you don’t have ability.
But because you don’t have something to show.

That’s the gap.

Start with one skill

The first shift is simple.

Don’t try to hold on to multiple random skills.

Pick one.

Just one skill where you can go a little deeper.

Because your proof of work will come from that.

Understand what others are doing

Before building anything, spend some time exploring.

Read documentation.
See what kind of projects others have done.
Talk to people who are already working on it.

This gives you context.

You start seeing what is possible.
You start understanding what kind of output you can create.

Keep your first project small

Most students overthink this part.

They imagine building something big. Something perfect.

Don’t do that.

Pick a small use case.

Build something simple.
Just make sure it works.

If your friend can use it, that’s enough.

Show your work outside

This is where everything changes.

Once you build something, don’t keep it to yourself.

Put it out.

Write about it on LinkedIn.
Explain what you built and what skills you used.
Record a small video showing how it works.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

It just has to be visible.

You carefully fill all your details.
You make sure everything looks neat.

And then you apply.

When I look at many resumes, one pattern stands out.

Skills are listed.
But the work behind those skills is missing.

You say you know something.

But I don’t see what you have done with it.

Anyone can write skills today.
That is not difficult anymore.

So when a recruiter looks at your resume,
they are trying to understand one thing.

Is there meaning behind what is written here?

That meaning comes only when you show your work.

What you built.
What you tried.
What actually came out of it.

If that is not there,
your resume feels like every other resume.

The problem with generic skills

There is another thing I keep noticing.

Very generic skills are still being highlighted.

MS Office.
Communication.
Adaptability.

These are not special anymore.

They are expected.

If you present them as key skills,
it creates the opposite effect.

It makes the person reading your resume question
what else you actually know.

So it is not about listing more.
It is about showing what truly matters.

Why real work matters more

Even when students build projects,
many of them stay within a safe space.

Self projects.
Practice work.

There is some value in that.

But when something connects to a real problem,
it changes how your resume is seen.

If a real user can use what you built,
it carries more weight.

It shows that your work can exist outside your laptop.

That difference is important.

The way you approach applications

One more thing I want you to think about.

The same resume is being sent everywhere.

Different roles.
Different companies.

But no change in the resume.

If your resume is not aligned to the role,
or to the company,

it becomes hard for someone to see
how you fit there.

So the effort is not just in creating a resume.

It is in shaping it based on where you are applying.

How are you all?

I know this is something you keep thinking about.
Starting a startup in college feels exciting but also confusing.

Most of the confusion comes from looking at the wrong thing.

What you think a Startup is

Most students think startup means having a great idea.

Something unique. Something no one has done before.

So you wait.

Or you put a title for yourself and feel like you have started.

But nothing actually moves.

The truth is simple.

A startup is just solving a real problem.

If that is not happening, nothing has started yet.

Where you should actually begin

Don’t sit and think about ideas.

Start with people.

Talk to 10 to 15 people around you.

Your friends. Your classmates. People in your hostel.

Ask them about their daily problems.

From morning till night.

Small things. Repeating things. Things that annoy them.

When you do this, you will start seeing patterns.

Same problems coming up again and again.

When clarity starts coming

Write everything down.

Every problem you hear.

Do this for a few days.

You will slowly see a pattern.

Now you are not guessing anymore.

You are seeing something real in front of you.

Choosing what to work on

Don’t try to solve everything.

Pick one problem.

Just one.

Then ask yourself honestly,
can I solve this with what I already have?

It can be your skills.
It can be your network.
It can be something very simple.

If you can help even a few people, that is enough to start.

Why funding is not your problem now

Many students say they have ideas but no money.

So they stop there.

That is the mistake.

You don’t need funding to start.

You need proof.

Build something small.

A basic version. A simple solution.

Show that you can solve the problem.

Only then people will trust you.

What actually matters after trying

Most things will not work the first time.

That is normal.

The real question is what you do after that.

Do you stop?

Or do you go back and try solving another problem?

That is what actually builds you.

Not the idea.

But the ability to continue.

If you are about to start an internship or your first job, this story is for you.

A new intern joined a startup and proudly posted about it on LinkedIn.
A few days later, a single email almost compromised the company’s laptop and network.

The uncomfortable part is this. He was not careless. He simply did not know.

The Story That Stayed With Me

A new intern joins a startup in Trichy.

First week energy.
He posts a photo on LinkedIn. Big smile. Company backdrop. Proud caption about joining as an intern.

Someone else sees that post.

Not to congratulate him.

To target him.

A few days later he receives an email. It looks like it came from the founder.
The name matches. The tone sounds professional.

The email asks him to arrange something on behalf of the founder. A small task involving gifts and money.

He does what most new interns would do.

He replies.
He clicks a link inside the email.

Then he does something that actually shows he was trying to be responsible.
He forwards the email to the real founder to confirm.

The next day in the office he casually asks the founder about it.

The founder goes pale.

“That email is not from me.”

Just like that, the situation becomes serious.

The laptop might be compromised.
The company immediately pulls the device off the office network.
The intern has to work from home using a personal hotspot while the system gets scanned.

One click. One reply.

That is all it took.

How The Scammer Knew Exactly Who To Target

The scammer did not randomly guess.

He saw the LinkedIn post.

The one with the company backdrop and the caption about joining as an intern.

From there it was simple.

Click the profile.
Find the company name.
Search the founder online.

Then send an email using the founder’s name attached to a completely fake email ID.

The intern saw a familiar name and trusted it.

That is exactly what the scammer was counting on.

New joiners are the easiest targets.

You want to be helpful.
You want to act quickly.
You do not want to look slow or difficult.

Scammers know this.

The Things Every Intern Should Already Know

What struck me most about this story is not the mistake.

It is the gap.

Nobody teaches these things in college.

Yet every company assumes you already know them.

There are a few simple checks that could have stopped this entire situation.

Check the email address, not just the display name.

Anyone can write the founder’s name in the sender field.
The real clue is the actual email ID.

Never click links in unexpected emails.

Especially if the email involves money, accounts, or outside platforms.

Verify through a different channel.

Walk to the person’s desk.
Call them.
Send a quick message and confirm.

And if something feels off, report it.

Do not reply to the sender.
Just flag it to your manager or IT team.

These are not advanced cyber security skills.

These are basic workplace responsibilities.

Most students only learn them after something goes wrong.

The LinkedIn Angle Nobody Talks About

I am not saying do not post about your internship.

Be proud of it.

But understand something.

Your LinkedIn post is public information.

Your company name.
Your role.
Your team.

All of it can be used by someone who wants to construct a very convincing scam.

This does not mean you should be afraid of the internet.

It just means you should be aware of how your digital footprint works.

Applying everywhere.

But very few students prepare for what happens after they get the opportunity.

How workplace communication actually works.
How to handle suspicious emails.
What information should never leave a company device.
How to think before you click.

These are not advanced skills.

They are simply part of becoming ready for the professional world.

And honestly, most students only start thinking about these things after something goes wrong.
